History of Chinese Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine has been prescribed and refined for thousands of years. The first herbalist in Chinese history is Shennong, who is said to have tasted hundreds of herbs and recorded his findings. The Shennong Emperor’s Classic of Materia Medica, the first Chinese manual on pharmacology, lists more than 365 medicines and dates back to the 1st century A.D. during the Han Dynasty.
What Is Chinese Medicine?
Many Chinese herbs used could be quite common or familiar to you. Some of them include ginseng, cinnamon and ginger. The basic concept of Chinese medicine is to strike and keep a balance in your body. Each herb can “tilt” your body toward one way or another. Therefore, with the right formula, Chinese herbal medicine can restore any imbalance in one’s energy flow. Chinese herbal medicine is especially effective in treating chronic and stubborn sickness.
How Chinese Medicine Can Help You?
At Yin Yang Acupuncture we offer Chinese herbal medicine in both capsule and powder forms. Capsules tend to be easier to consume for some patients, however herbs in powder form can be more effective. Chinese herbal medicine can be broken down into single herbs and pre-mixed formulas. Because everyone’s body and illness is unique, our patients are prescribed a personalized combination of single herbs and/or pre-mixed formulas. Chinese herbal medicine is usually prescribed to compliment treatments such as acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion.
